Structure Design Review
Cyclone Gabrielle brought an extreme weather event. This has necessitated a review of the specifications for elements of the pontoon structures. The review is will likely result in higher spec piles set at slightly higher levels to prevent over topping of roller cages.
The new specifications will apply to any new installations. In order to avoid loss or damage tethering is a recognised ancillary method for securing vessels to existing structures.
Tethering involves the installation of Bollards affixed to concrete pored behind the revetment wall cap.
Vessels secured to structures that do not meet the new specifications should be tethered in the manner depicted below when left unattended or in the event of a forecast major storm. A matrix for fore and aft tether ropes is also below.
